Football news :Tomiyasu's first-half header was sufficient to seal it for Japan as the last-16 diversion between two groups with seven titles between them neglected to satisfy its charging. Japan, record four-time victors of the Asian Cup, walk on to a quarterfinal with Southeast Asian bosses Vietnam in spite of not yet hitting best shape at the competition.

Saudi Arabia were in the authority at an opportune time yet it was Japan who grabbed the favorable position with a clear objective from a set piece on 20 minutes. From a corner, Belgium-based protector Tomiyasu moved over his marker and gestured immovably into the base corner for his first of the competition.

The Saudis twice approached with headers as they strived for a path back, and Hatan Bahbri twisted one simply off-focus as he went for the best corner.

Yoshinori Muto's shot was hindered on the hour-stamp however the vast majority of the odds were tumbling to Saudi Arabia, who will regret some inefficient wrapping up. Bahbri's shot from fresh crawled barely wide and Ali Al-Bulaihi controlled a solid header over when the ball was thumped once again into the region after a free-kick.

Yet, in spite of a late whirlwind it stayed another goalless trip for the Saudis, who haven't hit the net since scoring six objectives in their initial two gathering amusements.
